Forbes’ List: Mixed Martial Arts Star McGregor Surpasses Messi, Ronaldo, and Federer in Earnings

The American business magazine Forbes released the list of the highest-grossing top-10 athlete in 2021. It features mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor at the top. He also surpassed football star Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and tennis star Roger Federer in terms of earnings. McGregor earned about Rs 971 crore more this year than last year.

According to the list, McGregor’s annual revenue was about Rs 1,324 crore. In this, he earned about 1,163 crore rupees from endorsement or advertising and other things. Whereas, 161 crores was earned from sports. McGregor’s earnings last year were around Rs 353 crore and he was at number 16 on the Forbes list.

Star footballer Leonel Messi of Argentina and Spanish club Barcelona is second on the list. His annual earnings were around Rs 956 crore was third in 2020, with an earning of Rs 765 crore. At the same time, Ronaldo, who was at number two last year, dropped to number three this time in the list. His annual earnings were around 883 crore rupees. It was around 772 crores last year.

American footballer Deck Prescott was fourth with annual earnings of around Rs 791 crore and veteran basketball player LeBron James with a gross of around Rs 710 crore. LeBron was named Athlete of the Year by TIME magazine last year.

Process of making the highest-paid athlete list?

It includes the earnings made by any one athlete from May 1, 2020, to May 1, 2021. This includes prize money, salary, and bonuses. The amount received from sponsorships, appearance fees and licensing over the course of 1 year is added to the endorsement income. For this, information is taken from people inside the industry. Tax, agent fee, and investment income are not included in this.
