Pin Away Wednesdays: Kitchen Inspiration

Hello dear friends! I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since my husband and I started our kitchen renovation! Although most of it was “finished” in time for the holidays last year, we still need to build our island and update the lighting. With that in mind I am heading back to my Kitchen Inspiration Pinterest board to start gathering some new ideas. Today I a sharing some of my favorite images from the board that originally inspired our kitchen makeover.

French Country Cottage

When exploring my Kitchen Inspiration board you will find that I have pinned a combination of elegant French Country, rustic French Country, farmhouse, cottage style and a few fixer upper kitchens with a whole lotta vintage add in for good measure! My personal style is a blend of all of these elements so that is the direction I will be going with the kitchen update.

In this gorgeous kitchen the beautiful marble countertops are certainly luxurious, while the hardwood floor adds warmth and character. Today we see a lot of subway tile in modern farmhouse homes, but it also can look stunning in French country kitchens. I love how a collection of copper pots pops against the pretty white tile.

I also pin ideas for kitchen countertop styling to my Kitchen Inspiration board.  I am loving house plants right now, and herbs are always a favorite kitchen accent. Kitchen plants look beautiful in copper planters or any other kind of metallic plant pots.

Actually, just give me all the copper!

I have always loved chippy white and faux finished light colored cabinetry. I am still undecided as to whether I will keep my creamy white distressed cabinets or if I am going to paint repaint them. They will definitely still be some shade of white.

My husband and I have discussed removing a set of cabinets above our stove and replacing them with open shelving.  I am still on the fence about it, but it’s a possibility. I do love the look!

I have been reading that wood countertops are trending in 2019. I had wood countertops in my previous home and I loved them. I don’t think of wood or butcher block as “trendy” since those materials have been used as countertops for centuries.

I have been reading that wood countertops are trending in 2019. I had wood countertops in my previous home and I love them. I don’t think of wood or butcher block as “trendy” since those materials have been used as countertops for centuries. You can also use reclaimed wood (check out this website for ideas.) The use of brick on the backsplash or floor is also dreamy and timeless.

There is so much to love about this gorgeous kitchen! Along with the brick,  the neutral colored granite countertop is classy and elegant. Granite countertops are still very popular choices for luxurious French country kitchens.

While I really like subway tile, I am always drawn to patterned tile behind the stove. I am wary of committing to a colorful or black and white pattern, but there are some very realistic peel and stick tiles that might be a good choice instead of making the commitment to tile.

Vintage appliances are timeless! I have always loved the look of vintage appliances even in a modern kitchen. Today there are some great reproductions to choose from. I love the Smeg brand, especially in farmhouse style kitchens. I am also just loving that tile backsplash. White tiles with black grout are on-trend and increasingly popular within interior design for kitchens and bathrooms.

If you decide to use an actual vintage appliance, be sure to hire an appliance repair service in your area (no matter where you are in the world), it’s important that you find a company that you can count on and that is familiar with vintage appliances. Safety comes first! *Note: When you have an appliance that requires immediate attention, a good indicator of whether the repair service is reliable or not, is whether they offer same day service, operate 24/7 and have a fast response time.

House Beautiful

Updating your flooring options is a great way to make an impact in a kitchen. I have always dreamed of having European style brick flooring in my kitchen. Last year I lucked into a huge stock of brick pavers on closeout at Lowes for a steal and my dream came true last fall! Just the flooring update made a huge difference in the overall look of the kitchen.

The ceiling is often a forgotten feature in any room, but a great ceiling can completely transform any space. Right now we have a simple board and batten ceiling that I like, but when we redo the cabinets some of the trim will have to be removed so the whole ceiling may have to be redone as well. I am thinking a beadboard ceiling woud be beautiful in our cottage kitchen, or maybe even a combination of a coffering and beadboard.

Lastly, I love all of the beautiful faucets and hardware to choose from these days.  If you are concerned about germs? You can check into touchless soap dispensers from Faucets Canada.

I am especially drawn to beautiful vintage style faucets.  Almost any type of metal is on trend, but gold has made a big comeback.

I hope you have enjoyed this “Pin Away Wednesdays” post. If you are looking for more ideas be sure to follow along on my Kitchen Inspiration Pinterest board. Which style of kitchen do you prefer? I love hearing from you dear readers!

Thanks so much for visiting today!
