Strawberry Nutella Crepes are light, fresh and delicious, a type of very thin pancake that are prepared using very basic ingredients from your kitchen. These are perfect as a fancy breakfast or even as a dessert.

What are crepes ?

Crepes are similar to dosas or thin pancakes that are generally folded over or rolled up and served. They are usually of two types sweet crepes or savory galettes

If you have a good basic recipe for crepes then the flavor combinations you can try is infinite. You can either fill the crepes or top them with your favorite fillings or toppings. It can be sweet or savory.

What are crepes made of ?

Traditional French crepes or basic crepes are made using simple ingredients like milk, egg, flour and salt and butter or oil.

Ingredients for basic and easy crepes
  • 1 1/2 cups All purpose Flour
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 cup Milk
  • 1 3/4 cup Water
  • 3 tbsp Melted butter
  • 12 Strawberries
  • 1/2 cup Nutella

Once you have hands on experience preparing dosas or pancakes or crepes, you will start making them often. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t get the first few crepes right. First few never looks right to me as well. By the time you have 3rd or 4th crepe it comes out nicely and you will be a master. Also, the crepes do not have to be of uniform shape.

I have used a non stick pan to prepare these crepes, and this is a very basic recipe that I have been following for long time now. Remember, the thinner the crepes, the better.  Preheat the pan to correct temperature and add 1/4 cup of batter. Tilt the pan in circular motion quickly so that the batter is distributed evenly on the hot pan. This ensures that the crepes have uniform thickness and will be cooked evenly.

How to make best and easy crepes at home?

All you need to do is whisk egg and flour. To this, add in milk and water and stir continuously till its smooth and then add salt and melted butter. I generally add water little by little to get thin batter. When you cook the first crepe you get an idea if the batter is right or you need any additional water. Do not add all water at once. The reason is, the type/brand of flour, milk, butter used in the recipe will have an impact on the final consistency of the batter.

Crepes fillings

My favorite filling for crepes is a light layer of nutella which is folded and then topped with some fresh fruit and little more drizzle of nutella and sugar.

Some other favorite combinations are:

  • Banana and nutella
  • Strawberries and whipped cream
  • Banana and peanut butter
  • Sweet cream cheese crepes
  • Mushroom and cheese

What is your favorite flavor combo? Let me know in the comment section below and I would love to try it out!
