Cheerful Sunflowers are perfect for transitional Summer-to-Fall decorating!

Hello friends! I hope you are enjoying the beauty of late August wherever you are! Summer is winding down and fall is just around the corner. Sunflowers are putting on a lovely show right now in Kentucky, they and will be in bloom for a few more weeks as we slowly transition into autumn. I have always loved how these bright and cheerful flowers take us from summer-to-fall in the garden and home decor. With that in mind, today I am sharing some beautiful ideas for summer-to fall decorating with sunflowers. *This post contains affiliate links.

In most gardening zones sunflowers start to bloom during mid-late summer. At the beginning of their bloom time, there may be very few other signs of fall in the garden.

Sunflowers are the quintessential late summer cut flower for bouquets and unique arrangements. I love how they look when tucked into old buckets and vintage tins.

Sunflowers are like sunshine! They provide beautiful, bright pops of yellow happiness in the garden and in summer vignettes.

Sunflowers and lemons are simply perfect for brightening up any summer of space!

I used the combination of the two to create a pretty French Farmhouse Lemons and Sunflowers Tablescape last summer.

Common Ground

I adore the use of sunflowers in country-farmhouse and summer cottage garden vignettes.

While sunny sunflowers can obviously be enjoyed all summer, they have traditionally been used by many to welcome fall too!

In my home I use sunflowers to begin the transition into fall before pumpkins arrive on the scene.

Early Fall Decorating with Vintage and Thrifted Finds

A few years ago I purchased four gorgeous sunflower pillow covers that I just love. I move them all around my home in August and September.

In late August and early September I love the look of apples with sunflowers as a nod to back to school and apple harvest time.

Sunflowers can also be beautifully “peared” with other harvest fruits. Isn’t this grouping just stunning?

Sunflowers are just as lovely with pumpkins as they are with lemons and apples. I think this combination of white pumpkins and sunflowers keeps things light and bright, which is perfect for early fall when temperatures may still be quite hot.

Here is the very first sunflower I have grown since living here at the yellow brick home. It just bloomed late last week, and I am so excited! I had quite a patch growing earlier in the summer but the deer discovered them and had a feast! A few survived, so I have kept them under bird netting until they were ready to pick. I plan to pick this later this week to enjoy in a vase indoors. I will share a few photos of how I style my prized sunflower!

Next year I want to grow “Moulin Rouge” sunflowers or one of the dark burgandy varieties. I think the darker sunflowers are stunning for late fall.

I hope you have enjoyed these bright and sunny ideas for late summer-to-fall decorating with sunflowers. Are you a sunflowers lover too? How do you use sunflowers in your decor? I love hearing from you, dear readers!
